I love Olivia Goldsmith novels because they are always about women who get revenge on men who treated them badly. The most recent one I read was called Pen Pals. Even though most of the story takes place in a women's prison, it is not as depressing as most books about prison are. In fact, it is quite unrealistic and probably way too upbeat, but I still loved the revenge factor and the way it ended. Now that Olivia Goldsmith is dead, I will really miss her style of books once I have gotten through the rest of them.
Hi catlover,
I'm not sure I've read many revenge novels, but I love the idea. I always cheer the woman who gets her own in the end, and ruins the man or men who set out to destroy her.
wonderwoman
I don't like revenge novels. They simplify reality so much.
Yes, there's a lot of men out there who treat their women badly (and it's horrific and they deserve nothing good) but in most cases it's more complex than that, it's just not a matter of one being evil and the oher one good, it's usually both people's fault when they fight and I don't think it's right to project the stereotype that men are always the bed guys or women are always bad, it's not true in reality and one should definitely never get into that mind set.
Sure, it's just novels so it's cool if you guys enjoy them .. just remember, this is not how life is, there's tons of good men and evil women out there, and most of us are a little bit of both, we're a mix of good en evil and we try to let the good prosper and suffocate the evil (or at least the less good part of us) :)
cheers and be good <grin>

I personally never have the guts to get revenge on people who have hurt me. So that is why I like reading about people who are able to get even with people who have done them wrong. It doesn't necessarily have to be about women getting revenge on men. I would enjoy reading novels about men getting even with other men, men getting even with women, women getting even with women, etc.
If u want to read a good revenge novel with some humor mixed in, check out Karl Hiaason's latest novel called Skinny Dip. It's about a wife who seaks revenge on her husband after he tries to kill her. There is also a bit of revenge at the end of deception point by Dan Brown although the plot itself is not centered around this as a theme like it is in Hiaason's novel.
Try Dickens's novels, and edgar Allan Poe does a good Job of it. The Best Dickens novel would have to be Great Expectation. Oh, I feel for Estella.
wildebrew, I totally agree with your points.
